Show Notes:
Interviewer: I’m here at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco and with me today is a special guest. How about you introduce yourself?Joe: I’m Joe Lieberman, the new owner of gametunnel.com; previous owner, also current owner of BGSmart.
Interviewer: What inspired you to buy Game Tunnel?
Joe: I want to be famous like Russell is or was. Now that he’s not the owner, I’m taking his false thunder.
Interviewer: So, I guess this opportunity came to you, and you decided to buy it. What is Game Tunnel about?
Well, Game Tunnel is the premier review coverage for independent game developers, and it’s really all about making game developers more money and more exposure.
Interviewer: So, if an indie game developer has actually finished a game, do they submit it to you, or what’s the…
Joe: Yeah, they can submit their games through the website, and you can also submit unfinished products for preview coverage or just screenshots or news or whatever, whatever is interesting, you think, to me. I’ll take a look at it and decide whether or not it will be interesting to our users.
Interviewer: What other things can… Should indies go visit the site just to keep up on what’s going on? I mean, is it mainly gamer used?
Joe: Right now, it’s mainly gamer used. We also, of course, do our monthly roundup and the end of the year awards which everybody loves. That is a good way to keep up on all the competition or, at least, your cooperative friends are working on.
I would say very soon we are going to be launching a different style format that will have a lot more focus on news and things going on, not really industry wise but with other games. There’s a lot you can learn from, I think, what other people are doing. So, I think any independent developer should visit our site.
Interviewer: Sure. You talk about preview coverage. I mean, so when should an indie game developer send you information, like when they have a beta prototype or just when they get started?
Joe: I think that really depends on what they have available to me. If they send me something really bad and plays really bad, then you’re not going to get covered. Even if you did, you probably wouldn’t want to be covered. So, once you have something that’s really slick looking and that you think this is going to impress somebody, send it over and I’ll make that call to the editor if I ever hire one. I’ll make that call and whatever coverage you get is undoubtedly going to be beneficial to you.
Interviewer: Great. And so, what is the site and where can they visit it, and how can they submit stuff to you?
Joe: The easiest way to visit is to go to www.gametunnel.com. The hardest way to visit would be to walk to my house.
Interviewer: Great. Thank you very much. Take care. Bye.

I submitted my finished game to Game Tunnel, still no reply. Hopefully, things will change. I’ve also noticed that their forum contains a lot of spam messages, like ads for viagra and such.
Cheers!
